Hi, My name is Lawren Smith.  Welcome to my site.

I currently live in Montgomery, Alabama.  I have twenty plus years in the IT industry, ranging from ‘hands on’ technical to senior level software development.  I have been involved in various software development projects that involve java, C++, Oracle database, just to name a few.  The point is, my career has been very high stress; very short deadlines and high-end technical involvement.  Although I have enjoyed much of my career, I can say that I welcome having my own business.

As we can all see, the job industry has changed significantly over the years.  I remember the days when I first started my career as a junior programmer.  We were given 2-3 weeks vacations, sick time to be used when needed, being able to work from home, and much more.  Now, many corporations are requiring us to accrue our vacations and sick times.  More often than not, the sick times and vacations times are no longer separated.  They are now under the heading of “Paid Time Off”, better known as PTO.

Maybe many of you can relate, but even if you can’t I am sure you too have some stories to share about your experiences in the job industry or else you would not be here at my website. It is because of these experiences in the job industry that prompted me to look into the home business industry.

Why A Home Business?:

After being downsized three times, and going through six downsizings altogether, I realized that working for someone else was no longer meeting my expectations.  Like most employees, I put a lot of hard work into putting myself through school and working my way up through the corporate ladder.  In fact, I went from being a junior programmer to a software engineer working on some tough projects and in some cases, managing projects.  During this time in my career, I had reached a point in my career where I was making a six figure income.

After my third downsizing, and because the turn around for finding another job had become a four to six month process, I lost everything.  I lost my home, my car, and had to move in with my mother at the age of 42.  I had been on my own since I was 18.  This was an eye-opening experience.  During this time, I had spend some time online looking for other ways in which I could generate an income that would allow me to leave my job and just work from home.  I had never heard of a home business.  I knew about jobs that allowed me to work from home, but this did not peak my interests, primarily because I was still working for someone else and this was definitely not what I wanted. The Process Of Building A Home Business:

My very first experience in the home business industry was affiliate marketing.  I had created a website that sold exercise equipment.  Once I did this, I then uploaded it to my hosting site and waited for the tons of people to come by and make purchases.  This is how naive I was.  Nothing happened and I did not know where to go to get help so I gave up on this idea.

My next experience was to join a MLM company that was involved in the health and wellness industry.  I came in at the top level of my MLM company and followed everything my sponsor told me to do.  I put out fliers, passed out business cards, and even went to malls and other places trying to recruit there, only to have the police tell me to leave.  Needless to say, I was not making a whole lot of progress due to the horrible attrition rate.  I had to constantly recruit people every day because many of the people I had previously recruited were leaving. On average, I was making, maybe $200-$300 per month.  There were some months where I made $2500-$4000 per month and even one month where I made $10,000, but these were few and far between experiences.

After almost 4 years, I started looking for another home business opportunity because I was not getting the results I was looking for with my MLM company. In fact, my upline, who was at one of the upper levels and his upline, who was also at one of the upper levels, disappeared on me.  I was also left with just a few members because so many members of my team got frustrated and I could not blame them.  Talking to people every day, dealing with a lot of rejection and spending far more money than you are making will not lead anyone to success.
